Grants - Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education: Physics Grant
U.S. Department of Education ED Grant #P11B000981
Principal Investigator: Greg Salamo, Physics
Co-Principal Investigator: Ken Vickers, Microelectronics-Photonics, Ronna Turner, Educational Research Methods
The goal of the FIPSE grant is to produce next-generation physics graduates who are trained to creatively utilize their knowledge to design and implement holistic solutions to complex technical problems. Graduates of the program are prepared to analyze and understand the global financial, societal, and ethical implications of their problem solutions and to implement these solutions through their leadership of efficient cross-disciplinary teams. To address these objectives, a combination of traditional physics curriculum, industry-like work environment shared by physics students, and an innovative commercialization effort centered on research in high performance micro-electronic materials, devices, and systems has been created.
Dr. Ronna Turner administers psycho-social measures and perceptual inventories to volunteers of this program to assess its effectiveness and to compare differences between participants of this degree program and other science and engineering degree program participants.
